Outside The Box

What screws us up most in life

is the picture in our head

of how it is supposed to look.

Ever wish you could venture out of the “norm” by wantonly thinking outside the box? What are the “Yes, but’s” that create the mental walls of your box?  Once you begin to question your beliefs, you will be surprised at how many you took on that you got from other people. Here are some of the common ones that keep us all stuck in proverbial ruts.

Relationships

  • Yes, but I don’t want to be all alone
  • Yes, but no one will ever love the real me
  • Yes, but this relationship is better than nothing
  • Yes, but at least I know what to expect

Work

  • Yes, but it has never successfully been done before.
  • Yes, but I have a mortgage and bills to pay.
  • Yes but my whole family have been. lawyers/doctors/bankers/accountants.
  • Yes, but I’m too old to begin a new career.

Lifestyle

  • Yes, but what will people think?
  • Yes, but what if I look silly or I FAIL?
  • Yes, but it’s not acceptable to risk security to explore a whim.
  • Yes, but that’s not how everyone else is doing it.

Any of these sound familiar?  Challenge these negative beliefs with positive affirmations that support exploring outside of the box. Begin by questioning one belief that does not resonate with your true desire. Do something more in-line with your gut feelings. When no one dies, you will realize just how self-imposed the walls of your mental box actually are and how much you’ve compromised adventure and spontaneity for safety and mediocrity. You will be amazed at how happy and fulfilling making a change can be.

I thought I would share some examples of people who I have recently discovered that are living their passion outside the box of traditional classical music. Just listening to them inspires me to think outside the box!
